WALL OF FAME 2/22/08

SPARE SOME CHANGE

Spring is right around the corner which means there's never a better time to purge the old and embrace the new. Polaroid understands this better than anyone, as they announced this week that they're ceasing all manufacturing of their instant films. 'Tis a sad day for many photographers, including actor and Anthem contributor Jason Lee whose large format instant images have graced our pages for the last two years. Jeremy Kost might be looking for another alternative as well, seeing as the downtown artist snaps only Polaroids. In the meantime, you can check out his latest contribution to Anthem as his first-in-a-series of artist profiles appears in issue 33 scheduled to hit stands later next week.

As the dawn of a new era is eminent with the presidential elections on the horizon, alternative energy has been a steady focus of conversation. While the topic of the sustainability of biodiesel is still up for debate, Zero Pollution Motors announced this week that the only true renewable fuel source is well, air. If you live in a big city and owning an automobile isn't realistic, Ultra Motor bicycles combine the ease of pedaling around town with the convenience of giving your legs a rest. With the flick of the wrist, their bicycle instantly turns into an electric-powered moped. If pedaling is more your thing, Swobo bikes' quiver is exceptional. Add a new pack from Chrome Bags' new collection and help reduce your carbon footprint by exerting a little man power to get around town.

We knew change was in the air for apparel after watching the trends unfold at the shows during the last two months. It truly is an exciting time for fashion right now and as much as we hate to say it, denim may be taking a hiatus this Spring. In a response to this, Acne Jeans is releasing their first collection of POP chinos combining a classic look with bright colors. We're giving props to prep this Spring and have been for the last two seasons. Wearing labels like Corpus combined with special projects from brands like PF Flyers (see the new Bob Cousy collaboration) there are no short offerings for clothes to help you fix up and look sharp this season.

Functionality always seems to be a talking point when reinventing oneself...or a product. When it comes to protecting our gadgets, or our laptops for that matter, we always look to InCase who recently launched a hard case solution for Apple Macbooks, iPhones and the iPod Touch. Keep an eye out for a new all-in-one car/wall charger as well to be featured in Apple stores this month.

Last but not least, because my passion lies in print I urge you to check out the new issues of 'Sup Magazine, Teen Trash and Pig Magazine. Change is in the air and if what our country is obsessed with in the media is any indication of where our youth culture is headed, we might need to look to our comrades overseas to inspire a new way of life. After all, the only constant is change and right now we need nothing more. Until next time...
