Graniph Design Award 2

Text: Nik Mercer

Japan is continually construed as an uber-expensive country -- mind, Nigo/Bathing Ape came from Japan, not to mention Beams, and Commes des Garcon -- and, for the most part, this is true. Assume that most goods will be marked up at least 20% in Japan. So that wonderful pair of Tretorns that cost you a mere $60 or $70 will be more like $100 or more.

Taking this into consideration, the Tokyo-based T-shirt manufacturer, Graniph is all the more compelling. Every week or so, Graniph rolls out a handful of wonderfully designed graphic tees that'll run you about $20 or so ... and, if you buy 10, you'll get one free. Not too shabby a deal to come from the land of the $10 Big Mac (yeah, that's not true).

While Graniph has yet to open its international store (fingers crossed, folks!), their Second Annual Design Award is open to anyone and everyone, no matter of country of origin, nationality, etc. (this is the 21st century/Internet Age). So ... let that graphic designer deep within you out and you might be one of the lucky thirty-one winners.

Get all the information you need here (English) or here (Japanese). The first prize winner gets $10,000! Wow. Maybe we should enter ...
