Red Bull Art of Can 2008

Remember making those tin and pop can toys back in the days when parents and children alike weren't especially worried about toys with sharp objects or potential safety hazards (Erector Set, anyone!?) For those of you with the desire to still express yourselves through the under-appreciated art of soda can toy construction, Red Bull is offering you the chance of a lifetime.

Since 2000, Red Bull has sponsored the Red Bull Art of Can competition with especially promising, creative, and intriguing results. The idea is to submit some sort of sculptural piece that's based on and heavily incorporates the Red Bull can (see images). While entrants don't need to solely use cans, you've gotta admit that it'd be really cool if they were the only material utilized outside of glue or nails. Come on—it's a Red Bull contest we're talking about here!

The award ceremony and final Red Bull Art of Can Exhibition will be hosted July 11-25 in Houston, Texas at the Galleria, and submissions must be in no later than April 6. So get creative with those cans (and, of course, keep fueled with the mounds of caffeine vested within!) and you might just win a trip to Art Basel Switzerland for two (First Place) and a spot for your piece in a Red Bull advertisement.

Find all the information you'll ever want or need here. Good luck, future entrants!
