TV Books

Tim Barber, the brainchild behind Tinyvices.com, launched TV Books this year. He curated a range of work from the publishing house’s roster at the Partners & Spade gallery in NoHo this weekend, ranging from photographs and collages to colored pencil drawings and abstract paintings.

Artists featured include Kim Krans, who applied earthy tones of paint over high-end fashion advertisements, turning expensive dresses into jungles of vines; glossy marketing strategies became forces of nature. Gordon Hull utilized colored pencil to create child-like images of spaceships, struggling under the weight of imposing text: "struggle," "tension," "endurance." Patrick Griffin had two black and white photos on display. The first was of a father holding his baby in a messy living room; in the second, the same baby appears in a skeleton costume, holding a human skull. Michael Schmelling had the most work on display—photo collages of clouds and a man’s torso, as well as a spray painted dog on a screen with a paper border, a print of hands and a photo of assorted medicine bottles. Work from Jason Nocito, Aurel Schmidt, Julia Burlingham and Tim Barber was also on view.

Visit www.tvbookshop.com for limited edition publications from these artists, as well as exclusive (and affordable) posters.

Also, check out some pictures from TV Books' exhibition/catalog viewing at Partners & Spade. The two-day event already passed, but the photos from it are pretty spectacular.
