Paul Pope Gets Strange. Adam Strange.

Text: Nik Mercer

DC Comics ain't getting the credibility it once did―largely due to the fact that they're not churning out blockbuster films at a rate that even begins to rival Marvel's―but the other comic book titan has been trying to step back up to the plate by installing numerous especially creative projects into its empire.

One such bright and shiny beacon of comic book hope is Wednesday Comics, a 12-issue weekly miniseries that commences on July 8 and runs throughout the summer. Basically, the dozen Sunday comics-style publications aim to re-contextualize some of DC's finest oldies for a modern (and more sophisticated?) audience.

The contribution that's getting us super jazzed right now is Paul Pope's "Strange Adventures" (which stars the classic space cadet hero Adam Strange). Thanks to the Internet-embracing Pope, we already have two one-page installments to ogle. Be sure to check his work―and everyone else's (ohmygodohmygodohmygod, the Metal Men come back in #5!)―as he's been known to churn out some spectacular sci-fi-leaning volumes (100%, Heavy Liquid), and now with a Star Trek short in the last issue of WIRED and an upcoming compendium of sketches and never-before-seen materials coming out any day now on his plate, it's about time that those of us who've been overlooking the pen-and-paper genius start getting seriously into him.
