Be Smart, Buy Art

Text: Dustin A. Beatty

Back in spring of 2006 in our D.I.Y. issue we gave our readers some quick tips on where to purchase work by some of the most prolific artists of the last two decades. Since then, prices have grown exponentially with demand for people like Ed Templeton, whose work appeared in the 2006 monumental exhibition in Vienna called The Americans alongside greats like Robert Frank and Nan Goldin.

While there are innumerable photographers, printmakers and painters whose work is now entirely out of the grasp of the average consumer's budget (see Marcel Dzama), there are still resources like Iconoclast who are continuously pumping out products that won't break the bank. Their latest edition by Ryan McGinness Growing Handplants, is a silkscreened skateboard available in limited quantities of 500.

They also still have a little gem for sale by Terry Richardson in all his glory for an exceptionally reasonable price. Don't sleep on this, or anyone else in this movement for that matter.
