Peter Hook Continues Pursuing Branding Himself; Persistently Fails

Text: Nik Mercer

We took it when Peter Hook made a fool of himself trying to mime a DJ set; we took it when New Order started covering Joy Division; we took it when the quartet became a mere trio; we took it all because New Order was (and still is, in many regards) a seminal band. They hold the record for selling the most 12" singles; they fostered a fledging electronic scene; they paved the path for the "Madchester" generation; they inspired thousands... millions with Factory Records, the film 24 Hour Party People, and a wide, varied assortment of other projects and releases.

They―bass virtuoso Peter Hook included―have progressed the electronic and pop worlds in ways no one else has come close to, and maybe their short comings (i.e. covering Joy Division for God knows why, collaborating with Y-3 and Adidas to make some dumb Hacienda tribute sneakers) are just simple products of getting older. Who can blame them, right?

The final straw has been laid, though: Peter Hook is embarking on a Hacienda celebration tour with some of the club's other mainstays to honor the venue's 25th anniversary (keep in mind it wasn't open and running for twenty-five years straight, though!) Read the full story over at The Daily Swarm. Be prepared to gag puke.
