Diplo has been keeping very busy with his record label, Mad Decent, charity organization, Heaps Decent, and independent DJ gigs, so it's always exciting to get a new remix by the international beat master.
First, Diplo contributed to the Verve Remixed 4 compilation with an edit of Marlena Shaw's "California Soul," a sultry 1960s soul single. You can sample other remixes from the release here or buy it at Amazon.com. The revamped Verve cuts are always a pleasure and serve as a perfect soundtrack choice for your 21st century attempt at a Playboy Mansion party.
Second, the U.K. producer edited the Black Ghosts' "Repetition Kills You," and while the R&B/electronic jam's been remixed approximately a dozen times, this one stands out for it's Simian Mobile Disco-esque pulsating rhythms, laser-light synth additions, and spacey vocal filters. It's a minimalized and slightly subdued mix that we can imagine being dropped in at either the start of a rager or towards the end of a set.
