P4K Celebrates Sub Pop's 20th

Text: Nik Mercer

Yup, Sub Pop Records is twenty years old! That's not quite as old as Esquire's much-flaunted seven five, but it's something. In a relatively short span of time, Sub Pop has achieved a tremendous amount... and it's not even officially an adult yet!

Last week, Pitchforkmedia celebrated the label's birthday with a Top 20 Releases list of sorts. The albums may not be numbered, but the linear nature of the thing implies preference and favoritism, right? Check it out right here. 90% of the bands and CD's noted are known to us, but—ahem—does anyone here know Earth's Earth 2!? Today, P4K published yet another list that commemorates all those who were this close to making the first one. (Sub Pop Turns 20 Top 20 sounds better than Sub Pop Turns 20 Top 40.) Check that one out right here. It's cute how the "Loser" T-shirt and Sub Pop fanzine are both called out.

Now we feel keen on pulling out all our Sub Pop oldies and giving them a spin. Six Finger Satellite, where did you go!?
