"If You Could Diary 2009"

Text: Nik Mercer

If You Could Do Anything Tomorrow—What Would It Be? launched in 2006 with a simple yet compelling concept: invite artists to respond to the prompt, "If you could do anything tomorrow—what would it be?"

Issue 1 and 2 were great in their own right, featuring big names (David Shrigley, Luke Best, Mr. Scruff, Geneviève Gauckler, Yokoland, Körner Union, Ian Stevenson, Jeremyville) and smaller up-and-comers alike. The resultant volumes were inspiring (how would you answer that question!?) and especially fun to browse through for their variety and sheer creativity.

Unfortunately, the two If You Could books have completely sold out; fortunately, a third one is in the works, the If You Could Diary 2009. Next year's release is being worked on in collaboration with G&B Printers and will feature fifty-two works by fifty-two artists (one entry per week!) The more interesting twist is that If You Could is accepting submissions from anyone instead of inviting select participants.

Get creative and artistically express what you would do if you could do anything tomorrow. The question's tougher than one would like to think...
