Fan-generated videos are becoming a more popular form of interacting with a artist's music, but few musicians think up a unique and truly creative way to channel their audience's desire to interact with their stuff. Such is not the case with the Chemical Brothers, though, who are utilizing Google Earth to produce a series of short music videos for the forthcoming Brotherhood LP.
The idea is a little hard to grasp without seeing this "tutorial" clip (above), so check it out before you finish this post!
Basically, the Chemical Brothers are inviting their fans to create 2 - 20 second videos (or photos) that will visually compliment the new album's single, "Midnight Madness." Everything has to be uploaded to Google Earth and the duo's homepage by September 1. Everything can be viewed on Google Earth, but only the best will be utilized for the final "Midnight Madness" official music video.
If you've been itching to direct—or assist in directing—your own music video or are ga-ga for the heavy electronic dance beats of the Chemical Brothers, now's your chance! Even if you don't participate, be sure to check out Brotherhood—it's going to be great!
