Betty Botox (a.k.a. JD Twitch/Optimo) just released a killer mix, Mmm, Betty, that everyone should know about and pick up!
The re-edit mix (which is officially being slabbed as an EP) features nine fun, somewhat obscure, and reliably bizarre jams. The Jellies, the Residents, Severed Heads, Carlos Peron―stuff like that. (Funnily, the second song is an edit of Peter Gordon's Love of Life Orchestra's "Beginning Of the Heartbreak," which is featured as the bookends of James Murphy and Pat Mahoney's Fabriclive.36 mix.)
Betty Botox knows how to make solid edits that aren't bland, disrespectful excuses to put boring beats and bass lines under otherwise spectacular songs. We don't agree completely with Morgan Geist's outlook ("Make original music or play original disco. Or make edits for personal use."), but we do get pretty tired of hack DJ's chopping up good music solely for their own personal gain. Betty Botox is good at this, though, so rest assured, you won't feel guilty buying the thing.
